The last fare hike for autos and taxis took place in October 2022.
What will you pay from Feb 1?
- Passengers using autorickshaws will be paying Rs 26 instead of Rs 23
- Passengers in taxis will pay Rs 31 from the current Rs 28
- The fare for blue-and-silver AC cool cabs will start at Rs 48 instead of the current Rs 40 for the first 1.5 kilometres
The decision was approved in a meeting of the MMRTA on Thursday. The new fares can be charged only after meters are recalibrated, the MMRTA release clarified.
In addition to the fare hike proposal, the transport department has put forward plans to enhance connectivity. Seven new auto stands are suggested outside five Metro 3 stations to improve last-mile connectivity and boost ridership for the first phase of the Metro 3 line, which runs from Aarey to Bandra-Kurla Complex.
For Thane residents, there is also a proposal to reduce AC bus fares by 35%-50%. The base fare for a 2 km distance would drop from Rs 20 to Rs 10.
The MMRTA is also planning to introduce over 30 regular and share auto-taxi stands along busy routes in the eastern and western suburbs, as well as in Thane, Kalyan, and Vasai.
