Following the success of the UP International Trade Show-2024 (UPITS-2024) held recently at India Expo Mart, Greater Noida, UP government is now under plan to host similar trade shows at the divisional level across the state.

Initially, the government plans to organize such trade shows in the headquarters of five divisions, including Varanasi, Lucknow, and Bareilly. The government is also trying to ensure availability of an exhibition centre at every divisional headquarters for organizing the trade show.

At a press conference held in the Lok Bhavan, Lucknow, on Thursday, minister for MSME department Rakesh Sachan and Principal Secretary of the department Alok Kumar told reporters about the state government’s plan to host trade shows in the divisional headquarters.

According to a press release, the minister Sachan said the second edition of UPITS-2024 has exceeded all expectations. “This edition has established new benchmarks compared to the first one held in 2023, positioning UPITS as one of the premier trade events in India. CM Yogi envisions organizing similar trade shows in divisional headquarters as well, and officials have been instructed to develop an action plan for this initiative,” the minister further added.

Principal Secretary of MSME Alok Kumar said the second edition of UPITS-2024 was organized with two objectives. The first objective was to provide a world-class platform for small industries. Through this trade show, the government also wanted to make the world aware about Uttar Pradesh's crafts, cuisine, and culture.

Kumar further added his department is now focussing on hosting such trade shows at the divisional level. He said although the trade shows, which would be organized at the divisional headquarters, may not attract international buyers, the state government hopes for the participation of the buyers from other states.

Highlighting the state government’s future strategies to pursue aggressive marketing to tap external markets, he said UP is often viewed as a “mind-locked state” rather than a “landlocked state” in view of its traditional focus on local markets. He claimed that this trade show will help us achieve that goal.”

Referring to three Unity Malls in Agra, Varanasi, and Lucknow, he said artisan products will get their space in these malls. “Additionally, we have acquired a mall in Bareilly through the Smart City initiative, which is set to become operational soon, and we already have arrangements in Noida. With this, we have made provisions in five divisions and have requested the central government to construct an exhibition centre in every divisional headquarters, allowing artisans to showcase their products at affordable rates” he said.
