Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath called for MLAs to adopt and strengthen a community health centre or primary health centre
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath called for MLAs to adopt and strengthen a community health centre (CHC) or primary health centre (PHC), even as the second wave of Covid-19 has laid bare the dismal condition of the state’s grassroots medical care facilities.

Responding to the call, basic education minister Satish Dwivedi announced adoption of a CHC in his constituency Itwa in Siddharthnagar. Similarly, minority affairs minister Mohsin Raza conducted inspection of a CHC in Safipur in Unnao to check for arrangements.

Dwivedi said his priority would be to reconstruct the CHC building, which is in a state of disrepair. He said he will also make sure the centre remains connected to water supply and is cleaned regularly, for which he will make frequent visits to the centre.

According to the national rural health statistics, UP has 20,778 sub centres, 2,880 PHCs and 711 CHCs. The state has the largest shortfall among all states of surgeons, gynaecologists, paediatricians and physicians that are supposed to be available at each CHC. The shortfall stood at 2028, according to the latest figures.
