To enhance safety during the foggy winter months, authorities have announced reduced speed limits on the Yamuna Expressway and the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. The measures will be implemented from December 15, 2024, to February 15, 2025, aiming to address visibility and road conditions caused by fog and freezing temperatures.

DCP (Traffic) Yamuna Prasad explained, “During winter, fog reduces visibility on roads, making driving difficult. Due to freezing temperatures, roads also become slippery, increasing the chances of an accident. To avoid any untoward incident, we are planning to reduce the speed limit on the Noida Expressway and Yamuna Expressway soon.”

Yamuna Expressway New Speed Limits and Penalties

Revised Speed Limits:

Yamuna Expressway:
Light vehicles: Reduced from 100 km/h to 75 km/h
Heavy vehicles: Reduced from 80 km/h to 60 km/h

Noida-Greater Noida Expressway New Speed Limit

Light vehicles: Reduced from 100 km/h to 75 km/h
Heavy vehicles: Reduced from 60 km/h to 50 km/h

Penalties for Violations:

Light vehicles exceeding the speed limit will incur a fine of ₹2,000.
Heavy vehicles face a fine of ₹4,000 for similar offenses.

Additional Safety Measures
Officials are taking proactive steps to ensure smoother and safer travel during the winter season:

Fog Lights Installation: Fog lights will be set up at various points along the Yamuna Expressway to enhance visibility.
Driver Support: Authorities will offer tea to truck drivers at night to prevent fatigue-related incidents.

Emergency Services on Standby
Deployment of 15 patrol vehicles, six ambulances, six cranes, and six fire tenders to handle emergencies.
The authorities urge commuters to adhere to the revised speed limits and follow safety guidelines to avoid accidents during the winter season.
