Xi-Modi meeting: China says it will ‘properly handle differences’ with India

China and India are arranging a bilateral meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with Beijing saying it wants to build on the strategic guidance provided by the two leaders and strengthen communication and cooperation.

Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong said the proposed meeting would mark the third consecutive year in which Xi and Modi have met, following their meetings in Kazan and Tianjin.

"China will work with India to act on the strategic guidance of the two leaders, handle the bilateral relations from a strategic height and long-term perspective, step up communication, enhance cooperation, properly handle differences, and be friends enjoying good-neighborliness and partners helping each other succeed," Xu said in a post on X.

The proposed meeting comes as India-China ties have shown signs of stabilisation following a prolonged period of tensions after the 2020 Galwan Valley clash.

Xi's visit to India for the BRICS Summit marks his first trip to the country in seven years. The two leaders' engagement is expected to be closely watched as New Delhi and Beijing seek to consolidate the recent improvement in bilateral ties.

Xu's remarks underline Beijing's emphasis on maintaining a long-term and strategic approach to relations with India, while also managing differences through greater communication and cooperation.
