A worker tragically died after a concrete block fell on him inside the Silkyara tunnel
Dehradun: A worker died after a concrete block fell on him inside the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district on Thursday, officials said.

According to the information received from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), the accident occurred when a concrete block -- which was being installed inside the tunnel -- collapsed, Uttarkashi District Magistrate (DM) Prashant Arya told PTI.

He said the block struck the worker on the back of his neck, killing him on the spot.

The deceased worker hailed from Jharkhand.

The DM said the concerned sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) visited the site to gather details about the incident.

He further clarified that this accident is not similar to the November 2023 Silkyara tunnel collapse, where 41 workers were trapped inside for several days. "In this instance, there is no situation involving a collapse of debris or workers getting trapped," Arya said.

According to the administration, detailed information regarding the incident will be shared once the SDM's report is received.
