The state government had, on Tuesday, moved the high court seeking "death penalty" for Sanjay Roy, the sole convict in the rape-murder of a PG doctor at state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee had expressed discontent over the verdict and announced that the state will appeal in HC.
The state's Advocate General Kishore Dutta said that the life sentence to the convict till the end of his natural life was inadequate. The Sealdah Court on Monday sentenced Sanjay Roy to life imprisonment till death in the case.
The 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor was raped and killed at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata on August 9 last year. The victim's body was found in the seminar room of the hospital.
