A Bengaluru woman two-wheeler owner recently faced a costly lesson for repeatedly flouting traffic regulations, a behavior that culminated in a staggering fine. Caught on multiple occasions breaking laws, her latest infraction involved riding with two additional passengers on a scooter, all without helmets. This violation alone resulted in a whopping Rs 1.36 lakh penalty, almost double the value of her Honda Activa.

Footage from CCTV cameras, shared by TV9 Kannada on YouTube, documented her numerous transgressions, totaling 270 instances. Additionally, authorities confiscated her Activa.

This substantial fine underscores the severe repercussions of irresponsible riding. It also underscores the efficacy of CCTV surveillance, increasingly employed by urban centers to monitor traffic and levy fines digitally, reducing the reliance on physical enforcement.

Furthermore, the importance of wearing helmets cannot be overstated, serving as crucial protective gear against potentially life-threatening injuries in accidents.

Despite the steep penalty, it pales in comparison to the risks the offender posed not only to herself but also to fellow road users. Reckless behavior contributes significantly to India's alarming road fatality rates, emphasizing the imperative for adherence to traffic laws.

In another incident, late last year, the Jayanagar traffic police confiscated a scooter due to a staggering 255 traffic violations. The person paid a spot fine of Rs 10,000, leaving an outstanding amount of Rs 1.3 lakh. The Traffic Management Centre (TMC) provided a list of vehicles with high violation counts, prompting police stations to track down and recover fines.

The man , a tailor residing in JP Nagar, explained that he had purchased the scooter for their son, who works as a courier delivery agent. Most of the violations, captured by an Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera near the person's residence at the Sarakki junction, were committed by their son.

Upon contacting Elumalai based on the scooter's registration details, traffic officials instructed him to bring the scooter to the station without disclosing the extent of violations or fine involved. When he arrived at the station, he was shocked to learn about the multitude of violations and the hefty fine. (With TOI inputs)
