As heavy monsoon showers continue to slow down life in the capital, Delhi Traffic Police’s Zone II is stepping up its game. From waterlogged roads and broken-down vehicles to non-functional traffic signals, the rains are exposing the cracks in the city’s traffic system. But now, there's a new move to fix that.

According to a report by TOI, Zone II, which covers parts of New Delhi, south and west Delhi, is introducing a strengthened coordination system. The focus? Tracking the live location of all Traffic Inspectors (TIs) to respond faster to breakdowns and signal failures.

Rain slows down vehicles, makes roads slippery, and reduces visibility. Even a small breakdown or signal failure can cause massive snarls. With two complaints on breakdowns and two more on signal faults coming in daily, the need for quick action is critical.

"Each of the 28 traffic circles under Zone II is headed by an inspector," Additional CP (Traffic) Dinesh Kumar Gupta told TOI. "We’re tightening field coordination. TIs will now be required to share their live locations periodically, and that data will be actively monitored. This existed earlier too, but now we’re pushing for stronger accountability."

Gupta said that minor signal issues are usually resolved within 12 hours, while major faults are fixed in three days. Every complaint is inspected by the concerned TI to ensure that there is no delay in redressal.

"The aim is to reduce inconvenience to commuters," Gupta added. "During monsoon months, these quick fixes matter even more."

Ultimately, it's about avoiding unnecessary gridlocks. With more rain predicted in the coming weeks, Delhi's traffic police hope that tighter coordination could mean the difference between a long jam and a smooth ride.
