Notably, Gaikwad had a remarkable performance last year, scoring 590 runs in 16 games with a striking rate of 147.50.

CSK Official Announcement

In a statement on their website, CSK confirmed the change in captaincy, quoting, "MS Dhoni has handed over Chennai Super Kings' captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the start of TATA IPL 2024. Ruturaj has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2019 and has played 52 matches in IPL during this period." The statement also expressed the team's anticipation for the upcoming season.

Transition Plan and Dhoni's Future

It's speculated that Dhoni's retirement at the end of the season prompted the franchise to facilitate a smooth transition by appointing Gaikwad as the new captain. With Dhoni's imminent departure, the franchise aims to ensure continuity and stability within the team.

This decision marks a significant moment for the Chennai Super Kings as they embark on a new journey under Gaikwad's leadership. As the team prepares for the TATA IPL 2024, all eyes will be on Gaikwad as he leads the defending champions into the tournament.
