The WHO said it is is closely monitoring the JN.1 variant and will provide updates on its risk assessment as necessary. It also noted that COVID-19 is not the only respiratory disease that is spreading. Influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and common childhood pneumonia cases are also increasing. due to onset of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and JN.1 could increase the burden of respiratory infections in many countries.
