'Where will Hyderabadis now go on H-1B visas?': Netizens react to Anand Mahindra's post on Google's new Hyderabad campus

Billionaire Anand Mahindra has reacted to a video showing the construction of Google's Hyderabad campus, its largest outside its US headquarters. The Mahindra group chief said the construction of the Google's largest office outside the US "in a particular country, it’s not just commercial news, it’s a geopolitical statement."

Many netizens reacted to the post of Anand Mahindra, who has 10.8M followers on social media platform X. Some came up with witty remarks. "Now where will the Hyderabadis go for their H-1Bs. The overseas office is coming to their backyard," said an user.

Many other users said that Google's decision to build the Hyderabad shows India's "time to shine."


"Google's setting up its grandest non-U.S. office in India isn't just big news—it's like the universe handed India the mic and said, "Your time to shine!" said another user.

"India is going to be leading player not only IT sector but so many other sectors," said an user.

Many other users drew attention to the fact that India campuses offer huge savings for tech companies. "Savings in Salaries offered plus savings in Immigration costs for employees,". "For comparison Senior software average salaries, for 1/3rd you are getting the same talent in Hyderabad!"

Another user commented: "Isn't it mostly because hiring in the US is hard and expensive vs India? Not much of a geopolitical statement, just an economic one."

Google is building a 3 million square feet building at Gachibowli, the upcoming information technology cluster in Hyderabad. The company had acquired the 7.3-acre site in 2019.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month virtually interacted with CEO of Google and Alphabet Sundar Pichai. PM Modi and Pichai discussed Google’s plan to participate in expanding the electronics manufacturing ecosystem in India. PM Modi also appreciated Google’s partnership with HP to manufacture Chromebooks in India.

PM Modi also welcomed Google’s plans to open its global fintech operations center at the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT) in Gandhinagar.

Mr. Pichai informed the Prime Minister regarding Google’s plans to improve financial inclusion in India by leveraging the strength and reach of GPay and UPI. He also emphasized Google’s commitment to contribute to the development trajectory of India.

Prime Minister also invited Google to contribute to the upcoming Global Partnership on AI Summit, which will be hosted by India in December 2023 in New Delhi.
