During the Raisina Dialogue, India's flagship conference on geopolitics and geo-strategy, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar invoked a rather specific cricket analogy to explain the way Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Cabinet works. As a part of the conference, Jaishankar was also asked to comment on the rising interest among people on global issues.

"It's because world is in a difficult place, more people are getting interested in the world. The second reason is globalisation of India. Like a cricket team, we don't want to win matches only at home but abroad as well," the minister said.

This is not the first time Jaishankar has praised PM Modi's working style. He has praised his work ethic, and leadership qualities, even during times of crisis. He also drew focus to PM Modi's preparedness and foresight.

Jaishankar invoked the analogy and said, "With Captain (PM) Modi the net practice starts 6 in the morning and goes on till fairly late...He expects you to take that wicket if he gives you the chance to do it."

He also praised PM Modi's ability to undertake and tackle any crisis situation he is placed in. "If we look back at the last three years, the decision to lockdown was a very very tough decision. It had to be taken. If we look back, what would have happened if we had not locked down," the external affairs minister said.

Earlier in the day, Jaishankar had also chaired a meeting of foreign ministers of the Quad. The alliance comprising India, Australia, United States and Japan denounced the threat of the use of nuclear weapons in the context of the Russia-Ukraine war as ‘inadmissible’. It also opposed unilateral actions aimed at changing the status quo or increasing tensions in the South and East China Seas.
