Taking serious note of the comments, the bench asked, “What sort of statements are you making?” and reminded the minister of the importance of maintaining dignity in public remarks when the country is going through tense situations.
Earlier, the Madhya Pradesh High Court had ordered the registration of an FIR against Vijay Shah for his remarks. The BJP leader and tribal affairs minister had allegedly called Colonel Qureshi a “sister of terrorists,” sparking widespread public outrage. Many have called such statements against a serving senior Army officer completely unacceptable.
Colonel Qureshi, along with Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, has been a key face of the Indian armed forces during media briefings on Operation Sindoor. Both officers frequently appeared alongside Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri to provide updates on the mission.
Vijay Shah has now approached the Supreme Court to challenge the High Court’s order. The apex court has agreed to hear his plea on Friday.
