While speaking at the programme in Sealdah Station organized by Indian Railways, the Bengal Governor referred to "violence and corruption" marring Bengal and urged the Prime Minister to request Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to start a Peace train from Sealdah station in Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri Station in North Bengal.
Bose has opened a peace room and anti-corruption cell in Raj Bhawan. The peace room was opened during Panchayat polls, which received thousands of complaints from the victims in pre and post-Panchayat poll violence in Bengal. Bose also urged the Railway Minister to start a Kisan Express and Culture on Wheels trains from Bengal.
Reacting sharply to Bose's reaction, Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Sanatanu Sen said that Bose maligned Bengal in a national platform. Trinamool state spokesperson Kunal Ghosh, who claimed that the Governor is acting as an agent of BJP in Bengal.
"In Bengal, in the last Panchayat polls 60 people died. There is no violence in politics in any part of the country except some parts of Kerala. There is a need to change. The Hon'ble Governor has expressed concern about violence and corruption at various platforms," BJP State President Sukanta Majumdar told mediapersons after attending the programme.
