A nine-year-old was allegedly raped and murdered in South 24 Parganas disrict's Joynagar.
BJP State President Sukanta Majumdar said, "The nine-year-old girl could not be saved? Two civic volunteers could not be deployed to save the little girl!"
"We want a CBI probe. Our lawyers will fight for the victim's family. We also want second post-mortem and the body of the victimm should be preserved. State-wide protests and sit-in demonstrations will continue across the state unless we get justice. When the parents went to the police but police was inactive. I was speaking to the victim's parents yesterday while Left was protesting outside. Minakshi Mukherjee, Dipsita and me-we all were protesting. So why cases against us," Agminitra Paul said.
BJP workers tried to break the barricades and allegedly hurled stones at police. "If someone violates law, action will be taken. Stones were hurled at police. So, police was forced to disperse the mob," Atish Biswas, Superintendent-Baruipur Police District, said.
Meanwhile, the West Bengal gvernment moves Calcutta High Court on Sunday following demands made by the minor rape and murder victim's father, seeking post-mortem in a central government hospital in the presence of the judicial magistrate.
The case is likely to be heard by the Calcutta High Court's Chief Justice's Bench today afternoon. Permission by the High Court has been granted.
"Whatever the family members want will be followed as per law. We have submitted a prayer in the Calcutta High Court," a senior police official said. The case will be heard today afternoon.
Meanwhile, police have lodged cases against BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul, Left youth wing Democratic Youth Federation of India ( DYFI's) West Bengal State President Minakshi Mukherjee and left leader Dipsita Dhar.
Dipsita Dhar, Mukherjee and Paul had protested in front of Kantapukur morgue for preventing autopsy of the victim in the evening.
"Police were not inactive. Being SP of the district, I have seen IC himself was present. We have supported the whole family. We have supported the family. It is a heinous crime. Our government is very serious about the case. Highest punishment will be given and we will ensure capital punishment. It is on record, police were active and the probe started even before an FIR was lodged," South 24 Parganas Police Superintendent said yesterday.
The body of the minor girl was recovered from a canal after Friday midnight and since Saturday morning the local people started protesting in front of the Jaynagar Police station accusing the cops of ignoring the early intimation from the victim’s parents about their daughter being missing since Friday evening.
Following recovery of the minor's body, locals ransacked the police station and 12 police personnel were reportedly injured.
The victim’s parents alleged that their daughter, a resident of Kipakhali area under Kultali Police station, on Friday afternoon, went to a private tutorial home under Jaynagar Police Station to attend classes. But she went missing.
