Kolkata: West Bengal governor RN Ravi said on Saturday that the state is determined to create a golden Bengal.

Speaking at a gala program organised on Mahalaya at Eden Gardens, West Bengal Governor Ravi said the state has. Come out of depressed state of affairs and every one is hopeful with new investments inthe state.

Last year, 45,000 pujas were officially approved, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said, adding which has increased by 12400.


The Chief Minister said that Pitripaksha cannot be the venue for Durga Puja. The cultural heritage of this puja will be maintained, and it will be organized in accordance with religious significance and scriptural rituals.

"I had announced financial assistance of one lakh rupees. The distribution of funds will begin tomorrow. Large-budget puja committees were requested not to take this amount. The government will not hold any hostile attitude toward them for this," he pointed out.

More than 200 puja committees in Kolkata accepted the Chief Minister's appeal and did not take this financial grant. They stated that this money should be given to rural pujas, CM said.

Not only in Kolkata, but across the entire state, the festival's celebrations will be deferred until Mahashashti. Cultural events will be held in Cooch Behar, Siliguri, Berhampore, and Digha.

In the past, people had to approach the court just to organize a puja. This was a matter of grief and pain for us. No one has had to do so this time. This year, 12,400 new pujas are being organized compared to last year. They will also be provided with puja grants, he said

The events have been organized in alignment with the tradition of Bengal and the Bengalis.

In the coming days, the Government of West Bengal will project the tradition, heritage, and scriptural customs of Durga Puja onto the global map.
