Bengal women's desks at police stations likely from Thursday
Promising that there will be no RG Kar case in future in Bengal and security and safety to women are of prime importance, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced on Wednesday that the state government will introduce a comprehensive approach for women's safety with women's desk at every police stations across Bengal, build special women police force-‘Durga Squad’, a dedicated helpline 112 and a vehicle, which will reach promptly if women distress calls come.

In every subdivision there will be a dedicated Women's Police Station and every local police station will have a dedicated vehicle. The state will create two new women's battalions with one named after freedom fighter Matangini Hazra.

“In Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, police reach the spot, responding to distress calls in six minutes. While in Bengal, it is three hours. We hope to reduce the time by introducing the new dedicated vehicle and complaint number 112. Every police station will have such dedicated vehicles,” CM has said.

With new BJP government's promise that the incidents like Abhaya, South Kolkata law college, the rape and murder of the young tribal girl in Rampurhat or the tragic events in Hanskhali, Kaliaganj, Maynaguri and the burning of minority women and children in Bogtui, Rampurhat, Adhiakri has vowed that women's safety is supreme and these incidents will never happen again.

A Women's Safety Commission has been launched which is looking into cases of past atrocities on women. The Chairperson is the retired Calcutta High Court Judge Samapti Chatterjee, and the Member Secretary is the veteran IPS officer, Damayanti Sen.

The state aims to generate one job for educated, unemployed youth. "Among them, we will ensure employment for 30,000 educated women. Under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, pregnant mothers will receive Rs 5,000 from the central scheme while the state will give Rs 16,000 making it Rs 21,000. Nutritional Kits with five nutritious food kits will be given to expecting mothers directly from hospitals and health centres," CM has said.

Under Annapurnar Yojana, 1.3 crore women got Rs 3000 today. Around 26 lakh plus SC, STs and Adivasis received funds under this scheme.

Apart from the Annapurna Yojana, we have also introduced the Zero-Value Ticket system for women in government buses. He said the state will soon introduce a Pink Card for women for free on government buses.
