"The High Court is a pillar of democracy and commoners come for justice here. When people lose faith everywhere, they have faith in the judiciary," Banerjee said.
Calling the Calcutta High Court "pillar of democracy", West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday urged the judges to resolve the cases, which are pending for several years, and urged the media to stop "media trial", without naming any incident: CBI's arrest of Anubrata Mondal or WBSSC scam.

Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava was also present at the programme, along with state minister of Law & Judicial Department Moloy Ghatak, for ceremonial handing over of the possession of Block-B of New Secretariat Building from Public Works Department to Judicial Department for the extension of the office wing of the Calcutta High Court .

"The High Court is a pillar of democracy and commoners come for justice here. When people lose faith everywhere, they have faith in the judiciary," Banerjee said.

"There were 88 fast track courts run by the central government. Then we came to power in 2011 and we continued with 88 Fast Track courts with the initiative of the state government . The High Court is a great witness of our freedom movement and it is the oldest court," Banerjee added.
