West Asia conflict deepens: India’s Chabahar port in Iran ‘under US air strikes’

Iran’s southern coastline came under US attack as the Middle East war enters 17th day of chaos and destruction. Several explosions reported in the vicinity of India’s ambitious project of Chabahar port in Iran. Any harm to the Chabahar port can be the gravest hit to India’s interest in Middle East war since the conflict began. Chabahar port is an important part of New Delhi’s ambitious long-term investment plans in the West Asia. Aimed to act as India’s gateway for trade with Afghanistan and broader Central Asia, Chabahar is crucial for India. Notably, India reportedly put the project temporarily on hold after US announced sanction over doing business with Iran. This was marked with ‘no money allocation’ for Chabahar port by New Delhi in the Union Budget 2026. Earlier, India allocated total of ₹400 Cr from FY 2016-17 to FY 2023-24 for Chabahar project, spending ₹201.51 Cr. Armed conflict between US-Israel & Iran continue to expand in its impact around the world as it enters 3rd week. The reports came as the 2nd major concern for India, while New Delhi already dealing with nationwide LPG crisis.
