Wangchuk's Ladakh-Tibet comparison 'misplaced': Central Tibetan Administration

Srinagar: The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), based in Dharamshala, on Friday expressed concern over remarks made by Sonam Wangchuk in his speech in Ladakh, in which he compared the situation in Ladakh with that inside Tibet. In an official statement, the CTA said it considered such a comparison "misplaced and inaccurate".

"His statement does not reflect the real situation inside Tibet. Tibet continues to remain under China's authoritarian rule, where Tibetans face systematic repression of fundamental rights and religious freedom, and intensifying measures aimed at erasing its distinct cultural identity," the CTA said. The climate activist, while addressing a protest gathering in Leh on Friday, had said, "Ladakh chose India for its democracy, but now what China is not doing in Tibet, India is doing in Ladakh."
