Srinagar: Several districts of J&K have banned the use of Virtual Private Network (VPN) due to 'security reasons', even as armed forces have increased cell phone surveillance to ensure that the ban is not violated.

Divisional commissioner of Kashmir, Anshul Garg, said: "After security review and continuous assessment at the district-level, prohibitory orders have been issued wherever found necessary." Of the 10 districts in Valley, deputy commissioners of Kupwara, Kulgam, Shopian, Pulwama, Budgam and Srinagar have issued ban orders.
