Vijay Devarkonda, Prakash Raj, Rana Daggubati among 25 celebrities booked by Telangana police for promoting illegal betting apps

Telangana police have registered a First Information Report against 25 celebrities and influencers for promoting illegal betting apps, following a petition submitted by businessman Phanindra Sarma. Further details are awaited.

Telangana police on Thursday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against 25 prominent celebrities and influencers, including renowned figures such as Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Vijay Devarakonda, and Manchu Lakshmi for promoting illegal betting apps.

The FIR was lodged at the Miyapur police station in Hyderabad following a petition submitted by Phanindra Sarma, a 32-year-old businessman, according to ANI.

Actors Praneetha and Nidhi Agarwal were also booked, a police official at Miyapur Police Station told PTI.


As per the officials cited, the complainant accused the celebrities and the influencers of promoting the betting apps on social media through pop-up ads among others. A case was registered under relevant sections of the BNS, Gaming Act and IT Act on March 19, based on the complaint.

The police is said to issue notices to those named in the FIR.

Further investigation is on.
