'Very rare incident': Mumbai mother-in-law donates kidney to daughter-in-law
In a heartwarming gesture, a 70-year-old woman from Mumbai donated one of her kidneys to her 43-year-old daughter-in-law. The rare incident received a lot of attention on social media after Maharashtra Pradesh Congress General Secretary Sachin Saw...

"Very rare incident in country happened in our Satyam Tower CHS. Both kidneys of Amisha Jitesh Mota (43), daughter-in-law of Mota family, failed. Kidneys of her mother-in-law Prabha Kantilal Mota (70) were matched & mother-in-law happily donated her kidney to her daughter-in-law," tweeted Sachin Sawant.
"Both got operated in Nanavati on Tuesday. Daughter-in-law is still in hospital. All mothers-in-law should follow this example set by the Mota family, especially Prabhaji. Congratulations to Prabhaji," he added.
As seen in the video shared by Congress leader Sachin Sawant, Prabha, who was discharged on Friday, returned home to a floral welcome and pooja by her elder daughter-in-law. "I am feeling so happy I could donate a kidney to Amisha," Prabha told TOI. "I don't have daughters, and have considered my three daughters-in-law as my own children. When Amisha was crying, I knew I had to do something to help her," she added.
Amisha said, "My mother gave birth to me but my mother-in-law gifted me another life."
Nephrologist Dr Jatin Kothari, who's treating the daughter-in-law Amisha Mota, told Times of India: "A mother-in-law donating a kidney to a daughter-in-law is rare, and I have only come across three such donations in my practice so far."
In India, women make up for most live organ donors in India, donating to their spouses, parents or children. Last year, Amisha was diagnosed with kidney problems. In April, her nephrologist Dr Jatin Kothari told her she could opt for pre-emptive kidney transplant or start dialysis," said Amisha's brother-in-law Jignesh told Times of India.
