The incident of rape and murder of the RG Kar doctor happened on August 9 last year. The verdict will be pronounced 68 days after the trial process in the matter started.
“The date of judgement has been fixed on January 18,” an advocate said.
The body of the doctor was recovered from the seminar hall in the hospital premises on the morning of August 9 last year. The initial investigation was conducted by Kolkata Police SIT which arrested civic volunteer Sanjay Roy as the prime accused in the case.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the investigation following the Calcutta High Court's order. Roy as the "sole prime accused" in the crime of rape and murder.
West Bengal Junior Doctor's Front (WBJDF) representative Asfaqullah alleged, "There are so many questions still remaining about the RG Kar murder. We think Sanjay Roy cannot be the sole accused." The WBJDF has conducted a protest rally today after completion of six months of the RG Kar doctor's death.
