Currently, pedestrian traffic is permitted on the bridge, while two-wheelers are prohibited. In response to this situation, traffic redirection has been implemented towards the Janki bridge. Additional security personnel have been deployed to ensure public safety. However, this closure may pose an inconvenience for residents residing in Swarg Ashram and Lakshman Jhula areas who rely on two-wheelers to traverse the bridge.
Narendra Nagar division's Assistant Engineer at the PWD, GS Semwal, told ToI that the protective wall damage occurred along the Muni-ki-Reti side. Repair efforts have commenced, but the high water level in the Ganga river hinders swift progress. He stated that a comprehensive assessment of the bridge's condition will be conducted within the next three days. If the river's water level continues to rise, the situation could potentially escalate.
The Ram Jhula bridge, constructed in 1986, spans 229 meters and stands as a significant landmark in Rishikesh alongside the Lakshman Jhula.Notably, the Lakshman Jhula bridge was closed for traffic in 2019 due to its deteriorated state.
