Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects worth Rs 8,260 crore in Uttarakhand on the occasion of state's formation day. He affirmed that Uttarakhand can establish itself as the 'spiritual capital of the world' if the government focuses on eco tourism, adventure tourism and building all-round wellness centres.

Addressing a gathering at Uttarakhand’s Silver Jubilee celebration, PM Modi said, “Uttarakhand's real power is its spiritual strength. If it decides, it will become the spiritual centre of the world in a matter of a few years.” He further added that the temples, ashrams, and centres of meditation and yoga can be connected to a global network.

About Uttarakhand's development, Modi said, "Uttarakhand has made all-round progress in different sectors in last 25 years."

"When I said after having darshan of Baba Kedar that this decade belongs to Uttarakhand, it wasn’t merely a sentence but a belief in you. As Uttarakhand completes 25 years, my belief is even more determined that this is the time for the rise of Uttarakhand," he added.

Modi also mentioned that the budget of Uttarakhand was Rs 4,000 crore before 25 years ago, which has now crosses the mark of Rs 1 lakh crore. "In the last 25 years, the electricity production in Uttarakhand has increased four times. In the last 25 years, the length of roads in Uttarakhand has increased twice," he added.

The unveiled projects cater to several key development sectors, including drinking water, irrigation, technical education, energy, urban development, sports, and skill development.
