New Delhi: Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday transferred the instalment of pension for the month of December to the bank accounts of beneficiaries of various pension schemes, which are run under the Social Welfare Department, through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system at a simple function held at the Chief Minister's Camp Office.

On this occasion, the chief minister Dhami released a total amount of Rs 140 crore 26 lakh 97 thousand online into the accounts of 09 lakh 43 thousand 964 beneficiaries.

Chief minister said that the state government is continuously striving for the social and economic empowerment of the weaker sections of society, the elderly, the widows, the “Divyangjano”, and the destitute.

He said all payments are now being made directly into beneficiaries' bank accounts through the DBT system, ensuring timeliness and transparency. He further said it strengthens transparent governance in the hill state.

Chief minister Dhami directed the officials of the Social Welfare Department that the people who attain the age of 60 years and become eligible for the old age pension, should be identified from the age of 59 years itself. Pension can be paid to them promptly soon after becoming eligible, he told the officials.

He said that the aim of the state government is that every eligible beneficiary of the society should get the benefits of the schemes without facing any kind of difficulty. He directed that the process of regular verification and monitoring should be strengthened further so that no eligible person is deprived under the pension schemes. The Chief Minister said that the Government is fully committed to the effective implementation of public welfare schemes.
