Uttar Pradesh reports 727 fresh Covid infections, 81 deaths

Uttar Pradesh reported 727 fresh Covid cases on Monday, with only three districts, which have more than 600 active cases being under Corona Curfew now. This has prompted chief minister Yogi Adityanath to attack Maharashtra and Delhi for their high number of daily cases and low vaccination figures respectively.

Last Sunday, the government had called for Corona Curfew to be lifted during weekdays in districts which had less than 600 active Covid cases.

Of the 2,80,220 samples that were tested, UP reported 727 fresh cases. It is the first time that daily cases have begun to fall to three digits after April 30. There have been 2,860 recoveries and 81 deaths. Total number of active cases in UP have fallen to 15,681 from a high of 3.10 lakh on April 30. Positivity rate reached 0.3% while recovery rate touched 97.8%, according to government data. Three out of 75 districts –– Lucknow, Meerut and Gorakhpur –– have more than 600 active cases.


“There are a total of 15,681 active cases in UP, whereas Maharashtra, with half the population of UP, is seeing as many cases being reported every day. In fact, the number of vaccines administered by UP equals Delhi’s entire population,” CM Yogi Adityanath said at his daily review meeting. “This is a result of the strategy adopted by UP as well as its implementation. In Maharashtra, deaths have crossed the 1 lakh mark, which is worrying,” Yogi said.
