The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a relaxation in statewide curfew from Wednesday onwards due to the decline in active coronavirus cases.

"There will be relaxation in coronavirus curfew in all the districts of the state from Wednesday onwards, from 7 am to 7 pm, for five days as the active Covid cases have come below 600," an official said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a high-level meeting on Tuesday to review the Covid situation in the state. In view of cases being below the 600-mark in all 75 districts, and only 797 new cases having been reported in a day, the decision was taken to relax the day curfew.

There are currently about 14,000 active cases in Uttar Pradesh and the positivity rate is 0.2%, added the official.
