According to a press release, issued by the UP’s information department, the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department will showcase the state's identity through its ancient civilization, folk arts, distinctive handicrafts and handloom and textile traditions, folk dance and music, local cuisine and other things. The state will also display the creativity of the artisans to the audience.
Uttar Pradesh Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said that this year's Surajkund Mela will be special in many ways. “40 handicraft stalls based on ‘One District One Product (ODOP)’ will be set up to provide a strong platform for the state's handicraft and handloom traditions,” the release further said.
Moreover, products from other districts, including glass bangles from Firozabad, perfumes from Kannauj, black pottery from Azamgarh, Zari-zardozi and Chikankari from Varanasi, Lucknow, and Bhadohi, will be showcased.
The Surajkund Mela 2026 will feature a much larger range of cultural, food, and amenities than ever before.
He further added that during the Surajkund Mela, five to six cultural programmes will be organised every day from 10 am to 6 pm. “These will include folk dances, folk music and traditional cultural performances of Uttar Pradesh, which will introduce the audience to the rich cultural heritage of the state. Around 50 to 100 artists will participate in these performances every day,” the release said. During the fair, fashion shows showcasing traditional and contemporary costumes, jewellery and fashion of Uttar Pradesh will also be organised on three special occasions (weekends), which will be a special attraction for the visitors.
As per the release, the Surajkund International Crafts Mela 2026 is a golden opportunity for Uttar Pradesh to effectively showcase its rich folk traditions, handicraft heritage, and cultural diversity on a global stage. “With Uttar Pradesh as the theme state, ODOP-based handicraft stalls from various districts will bring alive the art and creativity of artisans. Through eco-friendly décor, digital technology, and regional cuisine, this event will strengthen our commitment to Vocal for Local and sustainable tourism,” the release further mentioned.
