Uttar Pradesh announces winter vacation, all schools to remain closed till January 14
The Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Council declares a winter vacation until January 14, 2024, for all schools, including pre-primary to Class 8, due to an orange alert predicting cold wave conditions.

District School Inspector Chandra K Singh, in accordance with government directives, has advised the principals of secondary schools where classes up to the 8th are conducted. As per the orders, students in these classes are granted a holiday until January 14, 2024. The principals have been instructed to take the necessary measures to comply with this decision.
The decision to declare a winter break comes in light of the orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD has predicted cold wave conditions in several areas of Uttar Pradesh in the upcoming days. As a precautionary measure, schools have been shut to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
Earlier on Thursday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched PM SHRI schools in the state under which 928 schools will be upgraded. According to an official release, 1753 schools in Uttar Pradesh have been selected for PM Schools for Rising India (SHRI) Yojana.
In the first phase, 928 schools will be upgraded and developed as integrated campuses equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.
According to the release, Adityanath at the launch of the PM Shri Schools Modernization Program with an amount of Rs 404 crore at Lok Bhawan here, said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi intends that India should once again provide leadership to the world through the National Education Policy-2020. Uttar Pradesh is moving forward in this direction with full commitment."
Through this scheme, schools with modern facilities will be constructed. These schools will become the medium for the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020.
