US Vice President JD Vance is likely to make a trip to India later this month, when he will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also make a private visit to Jaipur and Agra. This comes at a time when India is working to fast-track a proposed bilateral trade agreement with the US.

Vance's visit is expected to coincide with US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz's April 21-24 India trip.

Ahead of the high-level visits from the US, Reserve Bank of India governor Sanjay Malhotra on Wednesday said, "We are better placed than some of the other countries. We have a comparative advantage." But noted that the tariffs are a "growth dampener".

"Merchandise exports will be weighed down by global uncertainties, while services exports are expected to remain resilient," he said while launching the first bi-monthly monetary policy statement for the current financial year. "Headwinds from global trade disruptions continue to pose downward risks."

India could also see a visit in the coming months by US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth. Hegseth's trip, slated for May or June, will focus on advancing a new 10-year framework for the US-India Major Defence Partnership announced during Modi's White House visit in February.
