Tensions escalate between India and Pakistan after Pahalgam attack
The U.S. State Department said on Sunday that Washington has been in contact with both India and Pakistan, urging them to work towards a "responsible solution" as tensions escalate following the Pahalgam attack in Kashmir.

"This is an evolving situation, and we are monitoring developments closely. We have been in touch with the governments of India and Pakistan at multiple levels," a U.S. State Department spokesperson told Reuters in an emailed statement.

"The United States encourages all parties to work together towards a responsible resolution," the spokesperson added.

The spokesperson also reaffirmed Washington’s stance, saying the U.S. "stands with India and strongly condemns the terrorist attack in Pahalgam," echoing recent remarks made by President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.

Meanwhile, Pakistani troops have continued to violate the ceasefire, resorting to unprovoked firing in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch and Kupwara districts, Army officials reported on Monday. This marks the fourth consecutive night of small-arms fire along the Line of Control (LoC), amidst rising tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad following last week's terrorist attack in Pahalgam.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation into the Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in 26 fatalities, according to a PTI report.

The NIA teams, led by senior officers including an Inspector General of Police, a Deputy Inspector General of Police, and a Superintendent of Police, are meticulously questioning eyewitnesses to the attack, which occurred on Tuesday in the Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

The investigators are piecing together the sequence of events that led to one of the deadliest terror attacks in Kashmir and are closely examining the entry and exit points for clues to the terrorists' modus operandi.
