US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to visit India in mid-May on first trip

The two reviewed bilateral relationships, especially trade, critical minerals supplies, defence and the Quad, according to people familiar with the meeting. "Welcome to the White House, Vikram Misri! Productive meeting with Marco Rubio that focused on our bilateral relationship, especially trade, critical minerals, defence and the Quad. Secretary Rubio looks forward to visiting India next month!" US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, said in a post on X. Rubio's expected mid-May visit will be his first India trip under Trump 2.0.

Misri also met US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Allison Hooker, and discussed supply chain constraints due to Iran war."They took stock of the India-US bilateral agenda since the Foreign Office Consultations held in December last year," the Indian Embassy in the US said on X. "Also shared assessments on recent developments in West Asia, as well as regional issues of mutual interest."
Misri also met US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau. "Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met with Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri today in Washington. The leaders reaffirmed the close partnership between the two countries and shared views about the situation in the Persian Gulf and other global and regional priorities," Tommy Pigott, Principal Deputy Spokesman for the Department of State, said. During his visit, Misri also met Jacob Helberg, Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs, and discussed deepening India-US tech cooperation.

Sharing the details of his meeting on X, EAM spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said they discussed the shared vision for resilient supply chains and collaboration in semiconductors, critical minerals, quantum, AI, nuclear energy and next steps in implementing the Pax Silica initiative.
