US secretary of state Marco Rubio has defended his country's ties with Pakistan, including counterterrorism partnership, while affirming that they are not directed against India.

Without mentioning India's relations with Russia or Iran, he said India has ties with nations with which the US does not have relationships.

On the US-Pakistan ties, he said, "We've had a long history of partnering with Pakistan on counterterror and things of that nature.
