The United States sees India as an increasingly important partner in building resilient global automotive supply chains, with the relationship moving beyond component trade towards technology, investment and co-development, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor highlighted on Wednesday.

“When the global automotive industry moves, the US-India cooperation is the engine under that load,” Gor said at the 66th ACMA Annual Session, highlighting the deepening ties between the two countries.

He said India and the US were “no longer just shipping components across oceans” but were “co-designing the future of mobility together”, with India's auto component industry emerging as a reliable and increasingly sophisticated partner for US industry.

Gor noted that supply-chain resilience should mean that American and Indian industries are able to adapt together, diversify sourcing and keep production moving during disruptions.

“The United States isn't just a customer of India's industrial success. We are an active partner in its speed and scale,” he said, describing the relationship as “Indian capital, American manufacturing, and shared prosperity in action.”

The comments come as the two countries continue to work towards a trade relationship that is “fair, reciprocal, and mutually beneficial”.

Gor said commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal is set to travel to the US at the end of the month for further engagement during the G20 talks.

He also called for greater two-way market access, saying American suppliers and technology should be able to access the Indian market while Indian companies should be able to compete fairly in the US.

Gor further urged Indian companies to expand their footprint in the US through greenfield manufacturing, R&D centres and distribution networks, positioning the country as a launch pad for their global expansion.

“For Indian business leaders, America is more than just a market for your parts. It is the ultimate launch pad for your global expansion,” he said.
