Winds of change is blowing in the US embassy in India as Sergio Gor gets ready to take over as ambassador.

Gor, who is expected to arrive here in mid-January, has decided to have a few of his close aides posted in the embassy to guide Indo-US ties without fully depending on traditional State Department diplomats, ET has learnt.

These aides will assist Gor in his ambassadorial duties as he handles the crucial partnership that has been under stress under President Donald Trump. The US appoints professionals from academia and think tank close to the administration in State Department roles.

Even before Gor's arrival, US Cd'A Jorgan K Andrews has reportedly been asked to step down, ET has reliably learnt.

Andrews is a senior foreign service officer at the State Department with 30 years of experience in diplomacy and national security and speaks Russian. Andrews joined as the deputy chief of mission in India.

Gor made a visit here in October and met Prime Minister Narendra Modi besides other ministers and senior officials.
