Lok Sabha polls: UPSC postpones date for civil services preliminary exam

In view of the 18th Lok Sabha polls starting from April 19, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Tuesday postponed the civil services preliminary examination to June 16 from May 26. The civil services examination is conducted annually by the UPSC to select officers of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS) among others.

"Due to the schedule of the impending general election, the commission has decided to postpone the civil services (preliminary) examination-2024 which also serves as screening test for Indian Forest Service examination, 2024, from 26-05-2024 to 16-06-2024," the official statement of UPSC said.

About Civil Services examinations:

The UPSC IAS written exams are set to take place in two shifts – General Studies and Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT). The General Studies paper will be held in the morning from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, followed by the CSAT in the afternoon from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM.

The admit card for the UPSC IAS prelims 2024 will be released at least 10 days prior to the exam. Candidates can download their UPSC Prelims hall ticket 2024 from the official website at upsc.gov.in using their registration number, roll number, or date of birth.

The UPSC IAS Main exams are scheduled to take place from September 20 over a five-day period.

The poll panel of India, Election Commission on March 16, announced the schedule for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The polling will be conducted in seven phases across the nation from April 19 to June 1. The counting of votes will be on June 4.
