UPI outage hits India, NPCI confirms technical glitch now resolved

India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) faced a major disruption on Wednesday evening, leaving thousands of users unable to complete payments and fund transfers. Digital payment platforms like Google Pay and PhonePe were among the affected ones, with users flooding social media to report failed transactions.

According to Downdetector, complaints regarding UPI services surged past 23,000 after 7:00 PM, with the outage lasting for nearly an hour before services began stabilizing.

Amid growing concerns, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) issued a statement confirming that intermittent technical issues had led to partial transaction failures. However, the issue has now been resolved.


"NPCI had faced intermittent technical issues owing to which UPI had partial decline. The same has been addressed now and the system has stabilised. Regret the inconvenience," the body said.

Many users had taken it to social media and said that digital payment platforms including GooglePay and PhonePe are not working for them and wondering if they are alone experiencing technical glitches.
