The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a plan to construct modern hostels for working women in Lucknow, Gautam Buddha Nagar and Ghaziabad to provide secure, accessible, and affordable accommodation. According to a press statement, under the 'Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI)' scheme, a total of eight hostels have been approved for Uttar Pradesh.

Each hostel will have the capacity to accommodate up to 500 women and will be located in these three cities, it said.

The project has been allocated a budget of Rs 381.56 crore.


The Central government has released the first installment of Rs 251.8296 crore, which has been transferred to the Women Welfare Department by the State Finance Department.

A construction agency has been appointed for the project, and construction work is anticipated to begin soon, the statement added.
