A state-wide crackdown on unauthorized e-rickshaws and auto rickshaws will kick off in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. The campaign, which will continue until April 30, has been undertaken on the directives of the chief minister Yogi Adityanath. At a recent meeting, CM Yogi directed the officials in this regard, reiterating security and law & order as top priorities, as well as warning against any negligence.

CM Yogi highlighted that unauthorized e-rickshaws and autos have been involved in several accidents. Following his directives, the Transport Commissioner instructed all Police Commissioners, District Magistrates, and Senior Superintendents of Police to undertake the campaign.

Expressing concern over road accidents, the Chief Minister Yogi has asked officials that minors should be prevented from driving vehicles. He also called for the mandatory verification of tempo and e-rickshaw drivers. He directed that Transport Department officials be included in district-level task forces to ensure effective implementation. This special campaign is being started from Tuesday for the compliance and proper implementation of all these instructions.


The state’ transport department will monitor the campaign daily. Nodal officers have also been appointed for this. Additional Transport Commissioner Enforcement Sanjay Singh has been made the nodal officer at the headquarters. He will ensure proper monitoring of the campaign at the state headquarters level. He will also coordinate with the officials of different districts regularly. In this campaign, the responsibilities of the district-level officials have also been fixed along with the headquarters. Regarding the campaign, a progress report will be submitted to the government every Friday.

“The Chief Minister had held a meeting a few days ago to maintain the law and order of the state. In this meeting, he instructed the officials to run a campaign against unauthorized rickshaws and autos. This campaign will start from April 1 (Tuesday) and will continue till April 30. It will be monitored daily from the headquarters level. For this, the Additional Transport Commissioner (Enforcement) has been made the nodal officer. In the districts too, the Divisional Transport Officer (Administration/Enforcement) has been instructed to ensure the success of the campaign. Its report will also be sent to the government every Friday,” Brajesh Narayan Singh, transport commissioner, UP, said in a release.
