UP govt allocates funds for welfare of elderly, farmers and marginalised communities in budget

To enhance financial security for seniors and farmers, the Yogi govt provides Rs 1,000/month under the Old Age/Farmer Pension Scheme, with Rs 8,105 Cr allocated to benefit lakhs across the state, according to a press release, issued by the UP government. Under the "Mukhyamantri Mass Marriage Scheme" for daughters from weaker sections, the government has allocated Rs 550 crore.
To support the marriage of daughters from poor Scheduled Caste families, Rs 100 crore has been set aside, while Rs 50 crore has been allocated under the marriage grant scheme for daughters from economically weaker families of the general category. Moreover, Rs 60 crore has been allocated to assist voluntary organizations in running residential homes for the elderly and disabled.
According to the press release, the budget also demonstrates the government's strong commitment to promoting education, particularly for marginalized communities. A provision of Rs 968 crore has been made for Pre-Tenth and Post-Tenth Scholarship Schemes for Scheduled Caste students, while Rs 900 crore has been allocated under the same scheme for students from the general category.
The government has also shown commitment towards education for Scheduled Tribe students. For ST students, Rs 6 crore has been earmarked for their Pre-Tenth and Post-Tenth Scholarship Scheme.
Besides, the government has pledged support for the overall development of particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs) under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-Janman).
The Yogi government has taken a significant step toward empowering persons with disabilities by allocating Rs 1,424 crore for the Divyang Maintenance Grant Scheme. Additionally, Rs 35 crore has been allocated for the purchase of artificial hearing aids and assistive devices for physically challenged individuals.
The release said that a budget of Rs 1,998 crore has been allocated for the upliftment of minorities. “To promote education among students from the minority community, a provision of Rs 365 crore has been made for Pre-Tenth and Post-Tenth Scholarship Schemes, enabling them to pursue higher education and secure better career opportunities,” the UP government said in the release.
