Retired High Court Judge Brijesh Kumar Srivastava to lead the three-member judicial panel formed by the government to investigate the stampede incident that claimed 121 lives and left many gravely injured. The other members of the panel are retired IPS officers Hemant Rao and Bhavesh Kumar Singh.
Taking cognisance of the incident, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath earlier vowed to hold accountable those responsible for the oversight, following his meeting with the injured and relatives of the deceased in the Hathras tragedy.
Narayan Sakar Vishwa Hari, also known as Bhole Baba, the local preacher who organized the gathering on Wednesday, attributed the tragic incident to anti-social elements. Releasing a statement he said, “The stampede was created by some anti-social elements, I have authorised Dr A P Singh, Senior Advocate to take further legal action on this.” He added: “Express our deepest condolence, to the families of the deceased and pray to Prabhu / Parmatma for the Speedy recovery of the injured.”
