Shanawaz Khan alias Baddo, the key accused in Ghaziabad's alleged gaming app conversion racket, has been sent to a 14-day judicial custody by Ghaziabad court, news agency ANI reported on Tuesday.

The accused was arrested in Maharashtra's Raigad district on Sunday, June 11.

On Monday, a Thane court asked about security arrangements before it handed over his transit remand to Uttar Pradesh police till June 15. However, he was presented in a court in UP on Tuesday.


Shahnawaz is a resident of Mumbai's Mumbra and is wanted by the Ghaziabad police..

Based on the complaint lodged by a man last month alleging that a cleric and Shahnawaz had unlawfully converted his son to Islam, Khan and the mosque's cleric in Ghaziabad were booked under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act.

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar had said to ANI on Monday that the government had prepared a framework regarding online gaming through which games involving betting, harmful to users, and that can be addictive will be banned in India.

"For the first time, we have prepared a framework regarding online gaming, in that we will not allow three types of games in the country. Games that involve betting or can be harmful to the user and that involve a factor of addiction will be banned in the country," said Chandrasekhar.
