Awareness and unity of women forced political parties to support the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam', PM Narendra Modi said addressing a special gathering of women of Varanasi and eastern UP in his parliamentary constituency on Saturday.

Attributing the passage of the bill to the inherent "power" of women, Modi also said that women of the country are one of his biggest "safety armours" and sources of energy. Apart from addressing women of his constituency in relation to the successful passage of the historic bill, Modi also, earlier in the day, laid the foundation stone of an international stadium in Varanasi and later inaugurated 16 Atal residential schools started by the UP government to provide free education to children of construction workers and Covid orphans.

"Representation of women can be a contemporary system for the rest of the world but we are those who bow our heads first to Maa Parvati and Maa Ganga before taking Mahadeva 's (Lord Shiva's) name. This Kashi is the birthplace of the fearless Rani Lakshmi Bai. From the fearless Lakshmi Bai in the battle for independence to the women scientists leading Mission Chandrayaan in present day India, we have proved in every era of time what female leadership is capable of," Modi said.
