The Mizoram CM made his opposition to the uniform civil code clear amid increasing call for the enactment of it by BJP leaders.
Mizoram CM Zoramthanga said a uniform civil code would not be in the interest of the ethnic minorities of India in general and of the Mizos in particular. In a letter dated July 4 to the Law Commission, he said the Mizoram assembly had on February 14 this year unanimously resolved to oppose any steps that had been taken or proposed to be taken for the enactment of UCC.

The Mizoram CM made his opposition to the uniform civil code clear amid increasing call for the enactment of it by BJP leaders. Ministers in the union government have said that it would not impact the rights of the tribal people in the northeast and elsewhere.
