New Delhi: A decline in the male unemployment rate aided India's urban unemployment rate in individuals above 15 years and above, to fall to 6.6% in April-June quarter FY25, from a four-quarter high of 6.7% in the preceding quarter, the quarterly Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO) showed Friday.

The unemployment rate was 6.6% in the first quarter of FY24 as well.

The jobless rate for youth (aged 15-29) also declined to 16.8% in the first quarter of FY25 from 17% in the trailing quarter. As per the survey report, the unemployment rate for men was 5.8% during the quarter, down from 6.1% in the preceding quarter while female unemployment rate increased to 9% from 8.5% in the same period.


During the quarter, the share of salaried workers and casual workers increased to 49% and 11%, respectively, while the share of female workers in regular work rose to 54% from 52.3%, according to the report.
