Uneasy calm prevails in Assam district after local allegedly shot by security personnel

Monirujjaman is a fisherman and succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday. Family members claim that he had gone to fishing when the incident occurred. Till now the BSF has not confirmed however the family members are alleging the BSF fired.

Angry locals came alleging that fisherman was unnecessarily targeted.
Sensation prevailed in Gudoli village in South Salmara Mankachar district along the Assam-Bangladesh border when a civilian was allegedly shot by security personnel.

Monirujjaman is a fisherman and succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday. Family members claim that he had gone to fishing when the incident occurred. Till now the BSF has not confirmed however the family members are alleging the BSF fired.

A senior BSF official who do not want to be named told ET, “We will do the confirmation after enquiry. We are yet to find out whether he is a fisherman or smuggler. One fishing instrument and a torch light has been recovered from the deceased.”


Angry locals came alleging that fisherman was unnecessarily targeted.

Border Deputy Superintendent of Police Safur Ali, said, "We have reached out to the BSF and inquiring about the incident. Police trying to ascertain if any other weapon was involved in the killing of the civilian. As per reports, the deceased was a fisherman who had gone out to catch fish last night. The BSF have still not confirmed about the incident. After receiving confirmation an action will be initiated.”
