Underwater chess in Chennai: Scuba divers play chess under sea

Chennai which is hosting the 44th chess olympiad this year seems to reach new depths. In the videos, and photos going viral, six scuba divers were seen playing chess underwater. The one of a kind battle also features the chess olympiad's mascot Thambi.

In one of the kinds of battles of minds in the history of humankind, the team used heavy coins as chess pieces which were specially designed for this purpose.

The video of scuba divers playing chess has been widely circulated on social media.

Authorities in Chennai have made every effort for the promotion of the international tournament this year. The iconic Napier Bridge in the city was painted in black and white colors to give it the look of chess board.

Thambi, the official mascot of the 44th Chess Olympiad painted on the walls of Tamilnadu Urban Habitat Development Board on Kamarajar Salai in Chennai. The 45/40ft painting was done in 5 days by the St+art India Foundation.
